## ## Warren County will get a new freeholder

Ed Smith has said he will leave the board at the end of the year, having completed two three year terms. He was themost recent candidate to defeat a sitting freeholder, besting Everett Chamberlain in 2012.The two other current freeholders, Jason Sarnoski and Richard Gardner, have held their seats longer. Sarnoski won his as a challenger in 2010. Gardner, meanwhile, is serving his sixth term only four have served longer in the county 193 year history.All three freeholders are Republicans. Another Republican,Pohatcong Township Mayor James Kern III, announced on Thursday his intention to run in the party primary to succeed Smith.After this week’s news of Freeholder Director Ed Smith’s retirement, I have filed to run in the Republican primary for his seat on the Warren County Board of Chosen Freeholders. I’m looking forward to a positive campaign. “That is a great accomplishment,” Smith said, “and with this year budget, we will deliver yet another tax cut for 2018.”Smith hasbeen in the public eye in a number of capacities, including previously as a commissioner for the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission and as state Sen.
